The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films held their 35th annual Saturn Awards last night, and HELLBOY II won for Best Horror Film, beating out THE HAPPENING, THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR, QUARANTINE, SPLINTER, and THE STRANGERS for top honors.

Mike Elizalde and Thom Floutz have been nominated for an Academy Award for their outstanding achievement in makeup for HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY.
Elizalde has been considered for a “Best Makeup” nomination by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his work on X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and HELLBOY. He was awarded a Saturn Award for “Best Makeup” from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films in 2004 for his HELLBOY designs.
Floutz won an Emmy for outstanding makeup for a series in 2001 for SIX FEET UNDER.
The 81st Annual Academy Awards will be broadcast on February 22, 2009.

The 2008 Spike TV Scream Award Nominees have been announced, and HELLBOY 2 and THE ORPHANAGE have a strong showing with 12 and 5 nominations respectively. The awards are determined by online voting at Spike.com. You can finally say it: Academy Award winner Pan’s Labyrinth. This is a remarkable achievement and a great honor for Guillermo and Pan’s Labyrinth gang.
PL won in three categories: Makeup, Art Direction, and Cinematography. It did not win for its three other nominations: Score, Original Screenplay, and Foreign Film (an upset!).
