SPLICE Premieres in LA!

Posted on 03 June 2010 by Parker

Once again our pal Gary was able to score a trip to the SPLICE premiere in Los Angeles. His hook: “This film will make you feel uncomfortable…heeby jeeby uncomfortable.” Read his full review on his Dark Recess blog!

Some other tidbits:
I found pictures from the premiere at the Central Wisconsin Hub website

SPLICE is getting 61% on the Tomato Meter at Rotten Tomatoes right now.

Some notable quotables from Critics:
“The film, much of which takes place in laboratories or at the couple’s isolated farmhouse, doesn’t deliver “the usual.” I was fine with that — grateful, in fact. A little queasy in the stomach, but grateful.”
Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

“The script blends human psychology with scientific speculation and has genuine interest until it goes on autopilot with one of the chase scenes Hollywood now permits few films to end without.”
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

“Director Vincenzo Natali, working with producer Guillermo del Toro, achieves a second-rate — Canadian — tone that recalls Gothika and David Cronenberg

SPLICE Debuts at Sundance

Posted on 29 January 2010 by Parker

Here is a collection of links and reviews for the SPLICE premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Reviews

SPLICE a mainstream monster movie
“Writer/director Vincenzo Natali takes his tale in some truly icky directions, not quite making it into Cronenbergland but going far enough to elicit solid ‘ewww!’ laughs from the crowd.”

Review from Cinematical
“Come on studios, do the right thing and nab this dark, science fiction roller coaster.”

Review from Film.com
“B+ Creepy, giddy, squirm-inducing madness.”

Distribution

Sundance 2010: Splice Object of Service Deal Bidding Battle
“There’s a battle occurring for distribution rights to Vincenzo Natali’s Splice at this year’s Sundance film fest, but instead of acquisitions bidding in ever-escalating sums, the producers are being offered service contracts, which seems to be the trend in indie film distribution nowadays.”

New SPLICE clip online

Posted on 11 January 2010 by Parker

Another SPLICE video has surfaced online. Some really cool creature effects in this one. I can’t help but notice, that even though the clip portrays something amazing and beautiful, a sense of dread or anxiety seems to be in every frame. See if you feel the same.

Splice Stills Hit the Net!

Posted on 02 November 2007 by Parker

There are some amazing new pictures hitting the internet from SPLICE – one is the new movie poster (from ShockTilYouDrop.com) and the others are a collection of photos of the “being” (from DreadCentral. I admit, it gave me chills when I saw them.

SPLICE is being produced by Guillermo Del Toro, and stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polly, and is being directed by Vincenzo Natali. DreadCentral reports that SPLICE is the story of two scientists, Clive and Elsa, who merge human and animal DNA in an experiment to see what comes out of it. The result is a deformed infant that grows into a beautiful winged chimera, and a bond is formed between its creators. The bond turns sour, though, when death starts raining down.
