Our friend Typhon24 at CountingDown.com has scooped some info regarding Guillermo’s The Witches project:
“Finally, and this was news to me, del Toro has recently handed in a draft of a new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s work, THE WITCHES. Del Toro was excited about this new project, which he hopes to direct in addition to writing, saying that he plans to make his take scarier and more faithful than the previous film adaptation, hoping to make what he called ‘horror for kids.’”
Well done, Typhon24!!!

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Guillermo Del Toro will executive produce The Call of the Sea, a new horror film from Jorge Olguin.
Written by Olguin, the film is based on a legend about a ghost ship that navigates the cold waters of a mysterious Chilean island in search of the souls of local fisherman. The story centers on a marine biologist (Varela) who discovers that many of the legends are related to her family’s past.
Del Toro became involved after reading the screenplay.

Kirk “Sticky” Jones talked with SciFi Wire about his upcoming portrayal of Blade in the new Spike TV series.
“Well, first and foremost, I think Blade is going to be a little more street,” said Jones, a rap musician who was last seen on F/X’s war series Over There. “He’s going to have a little more of that human side and a sense of humor, but then it’s going to be the same Blade that everybody knows.”

BBC News reported the entrants for the Cannes Film Festival this morning, and Guillermo’s Pan’s Labyrinth has made the cut! If I read the article right, Pan’s Labyrinth is in competition for the Palme d’Or award.
Congratulations, Guillermo!

GDT was nice enough to share an excerpt of the Pan’s Labyrinth score! This piece is called “Sabes una nana?”, and is put together by Javier Navarrete. It is a sweet and haunting lullaby. “I?ve always tried to make sure everyone understood that this is a hard “R” and that is not a pleasing fantasy world…” says GDT.
Following this clip, the rest will be available through the PictureHouse website.
The file is in m4a format. Click here to download!
Thanks GDT!

GDT noted on the message board that he screened about 25 minutes of Pan’s Labyrinth to Nick Nanziata at CHUD and our pal, Typhon24.
Nick has already posted praise on the CHUD forum, describing it as “brilliant”, “brutal”, and “heartbreaking”.
