The Hollywood Reporter has posted a “first-look” at the concept art for THE BOOK OF LIFE, a feature film from Fox Animation, co-written and directed by Jorge Gutierrez, and produced by Guillermo Del Toro.
Fox Animation made the concept art public this week at the Beverly Hills’ Ace Gallery.
The film takes place during the Mexican holiday the Day of the Dead and follows Manolo, a man who is forced to choose between playing the guitar and following the girl of his dreams, or the path his family wants him to follow. He travels across three different worlds to find himself.
Gutierrez says the film is inspired by Mexican folk art, as well as Mexican films and stories from his childhood.
“All my favorite albums, all my favorite books and films, they are all personal stories that take place in a very specific culture but that are universal,” he says. “So I wanted to make something that happened in my family but make it for the world.”
The film will be released in 3D on October 17th, and features a high profile cast, including Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Danny Trejo, Ice Cube, Christina Applegate and Diego Luna.
