HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY was number one at the box office on its opening weekend, pulling in $35.9 million, according to studio estimates from Nielsen EDI.
According to USA Today, the film did better than projected (by about $5 million). HANCOCK came in second at $33 million, and the 3-D film JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH came in third at $20.6 million.
HELLBOY will have plenty of competition next weekend when THE DARK KNIGHT premieres nationwide.
