Del Toro To Co-Write Vampire Novels

Guillermo Del Toro has signed with HarperCollins publishing to release a trilogy of books about a vampire virus that ravages New York City. Del Toro will co-write the book with crime thriller novelist Chuck Hogan.

“The trilogy advances in unexpected ways,” says Del Toro, “And each book contains unique and surprising revelations about the history, physiology and lore of the vampiric race, tracing its roots all the way back to its Old Testament origins.”

The idea for this story arc was originally pitched to FOX television as a one-hour series, with the idea that the series would be a fantasy/horror spin on the police drama genre.

Del Toro expects to continue the concept, only in book form.

“The novel was written before HELLBOY II and the idea for Chuck was to give it a sense of a “procedural” crime novel,” says Del Toro.

Del Toro says the first book will be released early 2009, with the other two books being released in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
