Del Toro Not “Afraid of the Dark”

According to Reuters, Guillermo Del Toro will produce and co-write a remake of the 1973 ABC TV Movie DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. Miramax will also produce the film.

In keeping with his tradition of supporting first-time directors, comic book artist/writer Troy Nixey will make his directing debut on this cult film.

Del Toro is adapting Nigel McKeand’s teleplay with Matthew Robbins, his writing partner on the 1997 horror film MIMIC.

DARK centers on a young girl that discovers sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs when sent to live with her father.

Most surprising is Guillermo’s return to Miramax, which in part produced MIMIC. GDT has openly discussed how studio involvement hindered what he believes was originally a great script, and most recently took a shot at Miramax while accepting a 2008 Saturn Award.
